Robert Calcaterra DSc, Investor Director, Interim President and CEO – serves as Interim President and CEO for CardiaLen. He has extensive experience in early-stage life sciences businesses through his former roles as president and CEO of plant and life sciences technology incubators in Missouri and Arizona. In addition he has held various corporate engineering positions and taught graduate courses in entrepreneurship at three universities. He holds bachelor and master degrees in chemical engineering and a doctorate in engineering from Washington University.

Catherine Matthes, CPA, Chief Financial Officer – is responsible for finance, accounting, human resources, IT and office management. Ms. Matthes has in excess of 15 years experience in early-stage, venture-funded life sciences companies serving as CFO and overseeing all financial, organizational, informational, and risk management processes.   Previous to her tenure in life sciences, Ms. Matthes was an auditor for Coopers and Lybrand, during which she earned her CPA license.  She also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Missouri.

Igor R. Efimov, PhD, Chief Scientific Advisor (CSA) and Chairman, Scientific Advisory Board, – is the Stanley and Lucy Lopata Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Cell Biology and Physiology, and Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. He is the inventor of the low-energy defibrillation technology licensed by CardiaLen, and serves as Chair of the company’s Scientific Advisory Board.  He has gained global recognition in academic and medical circles for his ongoing research in cardiac arrhythmias, is supported by numerous National Institutes of Health grants, and is widely published in leading peer-reviewed journals.
